TicketsERIN, Wisc. – Sophomore Connor McNeely fired a bogey-free 71 in his Bearcats' debut to lead the Cincinnati men's golf team on Day 1 of the season-opening Marquette Intercollegiate.
McNeely made par on 17 of 18 holes and carded a birdie on No. 14 en route to his 1-under round that has the Butler transfer in a tie for sixth-place heading into Day 2 at the three-day event held at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin, Wisc.
Cincinnati finished round one with a 298 (+10) and is tied for sixth with Nevada.
Purdue leads (-1) after Day 1 with host Marquette in second (+1) and Augusta (+3) in third.
Senior Ty Gingerich carded a 75 (+3) and sits in 28th-place, while sophomores Rylan Wotherspoon and Ryan Ford turned in 76s (+4), and are in a tie for 38th. Redshirt senior William McDonald shot a 79 (+7) and is tied for 60th.
Freshman McKean Collins competed individually and cared an 81 (+9).
Round two of the Marquette Intercollegiate tees off at 9 a.m. ET on Monday.
The Bearcats will look to move up the leaderboard behind McNeely and its veteran returners who competed on UC's first-ever NCAA Regional team last season.
