The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team (2-5-4) continues its recent road trip by heading to Lubbock, Texas on Sunday for a defensive showdown with No. 14 Texas Tech (10-0-2).

CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team (2-5-4) continues its recent road trip by heading to Lubbock, Texas on Sunday for a defensive showdown with No. 14 Texas Tech (10-0-2).

The match will kick off at 2 p.m. ET from inside John Walker Soccer Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+ / Big 12 Now. A subscription to the streaming service is required to watch the game. Fans can also follow along with the live stats found here.
 
// CONFERENCE COMPETITION CONTINUES
The Bearcats are in their inaugural season in the Big 12 since the university joined the conference on July 1. This season, Cincinnati is 1-1-2 in conference play, while the Red Raiders enter Sunday's match atop the Big 12 with a record of 4-0-0.
 
// THE MATCHUP
Thursday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Texas Tech is one of six new conference opponents the Bearcats will face for the first time in program history this season.
 
Fun Fact: This weekend's stretch of games between No. 6 BYU and No. 14 Texas Tech marks the fourth time in program history the Bearcats will face ranked opponents in back-to-back games in the regular season. The last time the feat occurred was in 2021 when Cincinnati faced three straight ranked opponents: No. 18 Memphis, No. 20 SMU and No. 22 USF.
 
No. 14 Texas Tech will be the fourth-ranked opponent the Bearcats will match up against this season, tying the program record for most faced in the regular season. Cincinnati is 0-2-1 against ranked teams this season after tying BYU, 1-1, on Thursday. During non-conference play, the Bearcats fell to then-ranked No. 17 Michigan State (1-0) and No. 22-ranked Pittsburgh (2-1).
 
The Bearcats' last regular season win over a ranked team was in 2015 when UC defeated No. 18 USF, 1-0. The team also earned overtime victories against No. 10 UConn and No. 25 USF in the 2015 AAC Tournament.

Since 1994, Cincinnati is 5-36-7 against ranked opponents including Thursday's draw against BYU. A win over No. 14 Texas Tech would be Cincinnati's highest-ranked regular season win since the team defeated No. 12 St. John's 1-0 in a double-OT thriller in 2019.  

// LAST TIME OUT
Cincinnati bent but never broke against No. 6 BYU's high-powered offense in a Thursday night thriller that ended in a 1-1 draw.
 
Forward Ellie Flower tapped in a bouncing ball in front of the net to give the Bearcats the lead 1:31 into the match. Flower netted her second goal of the season and the fourth of her career.
 
Cincinnati goalkeeper Anna Rexford led the charge for the defense, tallying six saves, one away from tying a career-high. Rexford has been on a tear of late allowing only two goals, both on penalty kicks, over the past three matches.
 
Rexford and the defense held their own against one the top-scoring offenses in the nation, limiting BYU to only seven shots on goal, the team's third-lowest total of the season and held the Cougars to only one goal, their second-lowest-scoring output of the season.
 
// SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Texas Tech enters the matchup atop Big 12 as the team remains unbeaten this season and is a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Last time out the Red Raiders after defeated Oklahoma 2-0 at home. Texas Tech is undefeated at home this season (4-0-0) and currently on a five-game win streak.  
 
Texas Tech is one of the nation's top defense teams and our led by goalkeeper Madison White. White has recorded seven shutouts in 12 games this season which leads the Big 12 and is tied for third-best in the nation. She also leads the conference in goals allowed average (0.42), only allowing five goals this season. She has only allowed one goal through the team's first four conference games this season.
 
Ashleigh Williams leads the Red Raiders in goals with 12, which ranks fifth in the nation and second in the conference. Macy Blackburn's 10 assist are the second most in the county. Texas Tech is led by head coach Tom Stone, who is in his 17th season at the helm of the Red Raiders. He has spent her entire career at Texas Tech and holds a record of 189-99-45.
 
// DEFENSE LIMITING OPPONENT OPPORTUNITIES
The Bearcat defense has turned it up a notch since conference play began. Cincinnati has not allowed a goal in the run of play over the last three games. The team is third in the conference in goals allowed with three; two have been scored on penalty kicks.

// BARRON REWRITES HISTORY
Graduate student defender Ashley Barron currently ranks fifth all-time in career minutes played, with 6,391 minutes. Earlier this season, she became the seventh Bearcat in program history to record over 6,000 career minutes. She has played the full 90 in nine of the 11 matches this season and has recorded 974 minutes played.  
 
// CAREER HISTORY TO WATCH
Not only has Barron cracked into the top 10 list in career minutes, but she is fast approaching the top 10 list for career starts. She has started 73 of her 74 career matches.
 
Rexford continues to climb the UC all-time career top-10 list in three different categories. Sunday's win was the 21st of her career which tied her with former Bearcat Tracy Hale for the sixth-most in program history. The Wilmore, Ky., native is also currently ranked inside the top 10 in shutouts (8th) and saves (10th).
 
// A NEW FACE TAKES CENTER STAGE
True freshman Emma Gioffre has made quite the impact for the Bearcats this season. She has appeared in all 11 games this season, starting in nine. She will become the first true freshman to start in double-digit matches since Ashley Barron started 16 in 2019.

The Bearcats will return to Gettler Stadium to host Oklahoma State on Thursday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+ / Big 12 Now.
