ERIN, Wisc. -- Connor McNeely finished 11th in his Cincinnati debut, and the Bearcats were fifth at their season-opening Marquette Intercollegiate.
McNeely's 67 was the best of the entire field for the weekend and came on the heels of an uncharacteristic 80 on Monday. He also had a 1-under 71 to start. He had a pair of top-10 finishes as a Butler freshman last year, including fifth at the Big East Championships.
"We battled hard this week on a very difficult golf course," head coach Doug Martin said. "What a last round by Connor McNeely today in very difficult conditions. We made some errors this week that we haven't been making. We need to clean some things up before we play again on Friday."
Ty Gingerich was second on the squad and tied for 22nd, while Rylan Wotherspoon, William McDonald and Ryan Ford followed at 31, 35 and 35, respectively.
Cincinnati even tied for second in the back-nine before eventual champion Chattanooga continued its meteoric rise. The Mocs went 3-under for the best round of the field all weekend.
Cincinnati returns to action Friday for the three-day Visit Knoxville Collegiate in Loudon, Tenn.
