HOUSTON -- Two valiant efforts came up just short for the No. 9 Cincinnati men's golf team, first against No. 10 Houston in the morning followed by No. 4 Texas Tech in the afternoon on Tuesday.

Houston won 3-2 to start the day, and the Red Raiders held a 2-1-2 advantage in the nightcap. Ryan Ford had a win and a tie after ending his Monday with a victory.

"Two tough loses today to a couple of great teams in Houston and Texas Tech," head coach Doug Martin said. "In the morning match against Houston, we fell behind in a couple matches and couldn't close the gap and ran out of holes. In the afternoon match, we got off to a very fast start and just couldn't hang on to the lead. Ryan, Connor and William all played extremely well the entire day."

Ty Gingerich subbed in for both events as well. William McDonald rallied in the afternoon for his second win of the week to match Ford and Connor McNeely as the team's top performers at the tournament.

Cincinnati will next play TCU on Wednesday.
