Soccer Travels to Baylor Thursday, Returns Home for Senior Day Sunday

The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team (3-6-5) has a split week as the team heads to Waco, Texas for a Thursday night matchup at Baylor before returning to Gettler Stadium on Sunday to face UCF for Senior Day.

CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team (3-6-5) has a split week as the team heads to Waco, Texas for a Thursday night matchup at Baylor before returning to Gettler Stadium on Sunday to face UCF for Senior Day.

Thursday's match will kick off at 8 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match will kick off at 1 p.m. ET. Both will be streamed on ESPN+ / Big 12 Now. A subscription to the streaming service is required to watch the game. Fans can also follow along with the live stats found here.
 
All UC home soccer games are free for fans to attend. Sunday's match is the teams' final home match of the year.
 
Eleven seniors will be honored for Senior Day: Teni Akindoju, Vyviene Spaulding, Chloe Spitler, Lauren Bastian, Elizabeth Fortuna, Sydney Waiters, Kendall Battle, Mackenzie Tucker, Ashley Barron, Ellie Flower and Anna Rexford. Fans are also encouraged to wear red at Sunday's match.

// CONFERENCE COMPETITION COMMENCES
The Bearcats are in their inaugural season in the Big 12 since the university joined the conference on July 1. Cincinnati is 2-2-3 in conference play and currently sits ninth in the standings with three matches remaining. The top 10 teams in the conference will qualify for the 2023 Sprouts Farmers Market Big 12 Soccer Championship, held in Round Rock, Texas. The tournament begins on Oct. 28.

// THE MATCHUP
Thursday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Baylor is one of six new conference opponents the Bearcats will have face for the first time in program history this season.

Sunday's match will be the 14th time Cincinnati will face its former American Athletic Conference opponent UCF.  The Knights lead the series overall series 6-5-2, but Cincinnati has never lost to UCF when the match is played inside Gettler Stadium (4-0-2). Last season UCF defeated the Bearcats 4-0 in Orlando, Fla.
 
// SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Last time out, Baylor (3-3-1) defeated UCF, 2-1, to earn its third straight conference victory. Baylor is led by head coach Michelle Lenard who is in her second season at the helm of the Bears after spending 14 seasons at DII Dallas Baptist. In her 16 years of coaching, she holds a career record of 213-93-29 and is 12-16-4 at Baylor. 
 
Ahead of Sunday's matchup, UCF will host No. 14 Texas Tech on Thursday for its senior night. The Knights currently hold a conference record of 4-3-0 in their Big 12 inaugural season. UCF is led by head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, who is in her 11th season at the helm UCF after spending six seasons at VCU. In her 17 years of coaching, she holds a career record of 169-103-44.
 
// TEAM LEADERS 
Sophomore midfielder Megan Smith and senior forward Ellie Flower are tied for the team lead in goals with three apiece. The Bearcats have scored three goals in their last five games, and all have come off the foot of Flower.
 
// CAREER HISTORY TO WATCH
Not only has graduate student defender Ashley Barron cracked into the top 10 for career minutes (4th, 6,661 min.) but she is fast approaching the top 10 in career starts. Barron recorded her 76th career start in her 77th career cap against Oklahoma, the 10th most in program history. She has started 72 straight matches, dating back to 2019
 
Senior goalkeeper Anna Rexford continues to climb the UC all-time career top-10 list in three different categories. She claimed her third clean sheet of the season against Oklahoma State and her 15th career shutout, the seventh-most in program history.

The Wilmore Ky., native also ranks sixth in career wins (22) and 10th in career saves (183). 
 
 // A NEW FACE TAKES CENTER STAGE
True freshman Emma Gioffre has made quite the impact for the Bearcats this season. She has appeared in all 14 games this season, starting in 12. She became the first true freshman to start in double-digit matches since Ashley Barron started 18 in 2019.
