CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati volleyball team fell to No. 22-ranked Houston on Sunday in Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats (11-10, 4-7 Big 12) could not overcome a cold offensive attack, falling in straight sets to the Cougars. Cincinnati hit a season-low -.009 while Houston hit .276.
Sophomore Carly Glendinning led the team in kills (9) and digs (10) while freshman Zeta Washington chipped in seven kills and two blocks. Junior Molly Harrison was a bright spot on defense, registering seven digs.
// HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Houston raffled off four straight points to force a UC timeout (4-0). Glendinning accounted for the first three points for the Bearcats (6-3). UC pulled within one after a 3-0 run, hightlighted by back-to-back kills from Washington (15-14). The Cougars responded with a 7-2 spurt to claim the first set, 25-20.
SET 2 | The Cougars went on an early 5-0 run (7-2). With Lilian Entenmann behind the service line, the Bearcats scored three straight points (11-7). Houston extended its advantage after rattling off five straight (16-7). The Cougars cruised to the set win, 25-13.
SET 3 | The Bearcats could not get it going offensively in the final frame, hitting -.077. Houston hit a set-best .370 to claim the stanza, 25-11.
