CINCINNATI— University of Cincinnati swimming and diving freshman Joleigh Crye qualified for the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Women's Championships, announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee on Wednesday.
The meet will be held at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee from March 15-18.
A total of 322 participants, 281 swimmers and 41 divers, compile the field. Swimmers earned qualification by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.
Crye qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke with a program record and American Athletic Conference record time of 59.07 seconds. She is the first women's swimmer to advance for the NCAA Championships for the Bearcats since Jacqueline Keire did so in 2017.
The Avon, N.Y. native has been prolific throughout her first season with the program, breaking the 100-yard breaststroke program record on three separate occasions. Crye secured the 100-yard breaststroke crown at the American Athletic Conference Championships with her record time.
Crye's time of 59.07 seconds makes her the program's first woman to break the one-minute mark in the event. She also led the women's team with 10 event wins this season.
Bearcat divers, sophomore Will Claus and freshmen Alex Givens and Preston Landolt will compete next week at the NCAA Diving Zones to earn their spot in the NCAA Championships. All three will compete at the Zone 'C' on March 9-11 in Bloomington, Ind. All three earned qualification by meeting the established minimum score for the events in which they entered.
Claus qualified to compete in all three diving events, 1-meter, 3-meter, and platform, while Givens will compete in the 3-meter and Landolt will compete in the 1-meter event.
