LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Once again, Cincinnati senior Rylee Penn proved that she is one of the best middle-distance runners to ever dawn a Bearcat uniform. The Corona, Calif., native torched the track running a 2:01.90 in the women's 800-meter run, which is currently the sixth-fastest time in the nation, to lead the UC track and field teams at the Clark Wood Invitational on Friday and Saturday
Her time was not only a Cincinnati program record but also a Clark Wood Invitational record and Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park facility record. She placed first overall in the event, her second event win of the season.
Penn now holds four Cincinnati track and field records: outdoor 800-meter, outdoor 1,500-meter (4:10.13), indoor mile (4:34.44) and indoor 3,000-meter (9:12.44). Each has been set this year.
As a program, the Bearcats had three event wins and 20 top-five finishes over the weekend.
Senior thrower Hannah Jackson also had a meet to remember as she recorded the second-best women's hammer throw mark in UC history. In her last attempt in the event, Jackson demolished her personal record with a throw of 58.02m/190'4 to win the event.
Jackson followed up her hammer throw performance by placing second overall in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.74m/48' 4.50".
Senior Carmen Licht and freshman Gwen Stare each placed inside the top five in the women's 800m. Licht finished third overall with a time of 2:09.68 and Stare crossed the line in fourth with a time of 2:11.53, the 10th fastest time in school history.
Junior Brock Shellhaas place first overall in the men's unseeded pole vault. He vaulted a season-best 14.74m/48'4.50" to earn his first collegiate event win.
In the women's 3,000m senior Maggie Breitenstein ran a personal best 10:11.69 to place third overall in the event. Her time is the sixth fastest outdoor 3,000m in program history.
In the women's seeded high jump, sophomore Annika Kinley lead the way for Bearcats as she finished second overall in the event. Kinley cleared a bar height of 1.78m/5'10", tying her outdoor personal record.
Senior Carlos Kouassi had a big day clearing 15 meters in the men's triple jump. He recorded a season-best mark of 15.04/49'4.5", earning him third place overall in the event.
