Troeger and Penn Close Out Seasons on Day Two of NCAA Championships

University of Cincinnati track and field junior Leonie Troeger (javelin) and redshirt senior Rylee Penn closed out their seasons on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday.

AUSTIN, Texas— University of Cincinnati track and field junior Leonie Troeger (javelin) and redshirt senior Rylee Penn (1500m) closed out their seasons on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships inside Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday.
 
In her second career appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Troeger recorded a new personal-best finish in the javelin at the outdoor championships. She placed 17th overall with a throw of 50.02m (164'1"). Troeger was three feet away from earning her first career All-America honors as BYU's Ashton Riner placed 16th with a mark of 51.00m (167'4").
 
The Berlin, Germany, native became the first woman Bearcat to appear in the javelin at the outdoor championships in consecutive seasons.
 
Troeger had an outstanding season as she broke the javelin school record on three separate occasions, including winning the AAC outdoor javelin title with a program record and AAC championship meet record throw of 55.31m (181'5").
 
Penn's breakout year comes to a close as she finishes 20th overall in the women's 1,500-meter with a time of 4:23.34. This was Penn's first appearance at the NCAA. Penn broke both the UC 800m and 1,500m records this outdoor season.
 
The Corona, Calif. native had a breakout year to remember as she broke four UC individual program records including the 1,500-meter and 800-meter records this outdoor season.
