Cincinnati Kicks Off Spring Season Against Miami (OH)

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program will open the spring portion of the 2023-24 season by taking on the Miami (OH) Redhawks.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program will open the spring portion of the 2023-24 season by taking on the Miami (OH) Redhawks.
 
The Bearcats make the short 38.6-mile trip to Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center on Friday, Jan. 12 with competition beginning at 1 p.m.
 
// RECAPPING THE FALL
The Cincinnati women had a stellar start to the 2023-24 season by claiming three team wins against Northwestern, Kenyon and West Virginia.
 
The men have also shown dominance throughout the season. Graduate student Jon Osa has only begun to make his mark as a Bearcat.

Osa has set five new individual top-ten program records, was a member of the program record-breaking 400-yard freestyle relay team and two top-five program relay teams.
 
Senior Jessica Davis continues to find success in the pool, earning three individual top-ten program times and four relay top-ten program times.
 
Cincinnati newcomer Kyle Bumgardner has quickly found success in his first season as a Bearcat, notching three new top-ten program times.
 
Sophomore Joleigh Crye contributed to the women's success by capturing two school records in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke, alongside recording setting relay times.
 
// LAST TIME VS. MIAMI (OH)
The Bearcats split the dual with the RedHawks at Keating Aquatic Center. The men's team won in commanding fashion, 216-84, while the women fell just short, 166-134.
 
Cincinnati was able to sweep the 400-yard medley relay, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke.
 
Senior Hunter Gubeno and former Bearcat Conner Funke led the way for the men's team by securing 13 total event wins.
 
// SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami (OH) hosted their home invitational to close out the fall, the women's team finishing in first place and the men's team placing third.
 
Key performers for the women include senior Nicole Maier and junior Madeline Padavic who have recorded numerous program records and event wins this season.
 
On the men's side, senior Henju Duvenhage shows to be a dominant force claiming victories in three individual events. The former MAC First-Team and Academic All-MAC member also plays a crucial role in relay events.
 
Maier and Duvenhage were recently named MAC Swimmers of the Week.

Cincinnati will return home for Senior Night against Xavier on Jan. 18 with the diving competition beginning at 1 p.m.
