Rose and Bumgardner Lead Bearcats to Sweep Redhawks

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program earned 20 event wins, sweeping Miami (OH) today inside Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program earned 20 event wins, sweeping Miami (OH) today inside Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.  
 
The men dominated the competition crushing the RedHawks 189-111, while the women prevailed 154-146.
 
Cincinnati began the day notching a second-place finish in the women's 400-yard medley relay, the team of Grace Gavin, Joleigh Crye, Sonja Aarsvold and Sophie Curtis recorded a time of 3:45.26.
 
The team of Hunter Gubeno, Brogan Robinson, Drew Hawthorne and Jon Osa followed their lead by taking second place with a time of 3:19.06 also in the 400-yard medley relay.
 
Junior Will Claus represented the divers well by earning two event wins in the 1m (312.45) and 3m (325.50).
 
The Bearcats took control in the men's 200-yard backstroke with Gubeno finishing first (1:48.85), Joseph Swain in second (1:51.08), Drew Harris in third (1:53.68) and Brennan Muramatsu in fourth (1:54.56).
 
The women had their way with the 1000-yard freestyle, taking the top three spots. Freshman Libby Michel grabbed the win (10:23.50) with junior Annabelle Young (10:30.61) and sophomore Ingrid Fretz (10:33.92) right behind her.
 
Senior Tommy Eaton and freshman Kyle Bumgardner led the way for the men with two event wins each.
 
After the break, Bumgardner shined in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a new personal best time of 2:01.68 that earned him the win.
 
The women were led by freshman Julie Rose who shined in all three of her events. Rose finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.12 and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.82) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.49).
 
Sophomores Lily Jones and Mia Hensley earned their first event wins of the season in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.19) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.86).
 
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jessica Davis, Crye, Meghan Fleury and Kaylee Nagel solidified the win for the Lady Cats as they took home first place with a time of 1:33.03.

Cincinnati will return home for Senior Night against Xavier on Jan. 18 with the diving competition beginning at 1 p.m.
