CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team notched its third win of the season, defeating Western Illinois 7-0 on Friday night at the Western Athletic Club, moving UC to 3-0. This victory loomed large, as it gave head coach Eric Toth his 100th career win while at the helm of the Bearcats.

In the midst of his 10th season as head coach, Toth has the most spring wins in program history and is the second coach in Cincinnati history to reach the century mark. In 12 years at UC, Carol Tanner recorded 132 wins.

Toth, a 2015 Cincinnati Tennis Hall of Fame inductee, was also an incredible player for the Bearcats men's team. The 1994 UC alumni ranks in the Top 10 in all-time victories at UC as a player. After hitting the century mark in wins as a coach, Toth continues to cement his legacy as one of the all-time Cincinnati greats.

"A lot of good Bearcats have helped me earn this recognition tonight," Toth said. "I've had great assistant coaches that have been very helpful. They've been invested in these kids to help develop and make them better. But these kids, they're the ones that win the matches. I went to UC, so it's special doing it at my alma mater. It's always nice when you hit these milestones. I'll enjoy it tonight, but we'll all get back to work on Monday to prepare for our doubleheader next Friday."

Cincinnati fought hard for the doubles point. The freshman duo of Sara Watanabe and Morgan Pyrz dominated in their win, taking the match 6-0 against Agatha Carbonell and Anna-Evelina Trush.

The doubles point came down to court two, where junior Callie Flanagan and graduate student Victoire de Samucewicz won a tightly-contested battle, 6-3, against Aina Cortina-Pou and Maria Rybka.

In singles, freshman Gabrielle Gunther swept her way past Aina Cortina-Pou, 6-0, 6-0 to notch UC's first singles point. Flanagan added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maria Rybka and sophomore Isabel Pacheco clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Anna-Evelina Trush.

UP NEXT:
The Bearcats will host Duquesne and Eastern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 2, at the Western Athletic Club. Game time against the Dukes is scheduled for 1 p.m. and game time against the Panthers is set for 6:30 p.m.
