CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati men's golf team will commence the second leg of its South Carolina-Georgia trip Monday at the Johnnie-O in Sea Island, Ga.
"I'm really looking forward to Sea Island this week," head coach Doug Martin said. "The Plantation course offers great challenges and requires great shot execution. This will be another great field. We need to do a better job this week mentally. Last week I thought we were really ready to go physically but mentally not sure we were where we needed to be. We allowed our mistakes to carry over into the next shot or hole too frequently. It's a new week and new challenge."
Another loaded field awaits with Augusta, No. 16 Illinois, Kansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, No. 41 Notre Dame, No. 46 UNC Greensboro, Penn State, No. 19 Texas and Rutgers.
Cincinnati will seek similar success at last year's Johnnie-O, played at the Seaside course. It finished second to Kansas with Rylan Wotherspoon, Ty Gingerich and Sam Jean all tying for 13th to lead the way.
The Bearcats will have their same lineup as the Colleton River Collegiate last week: Wotherspoon, Gingerich, Ryan Ford, Connor McNeely and William McDonald with Jackson Finney competing individually.
Ford was electric with a 9-under through the first 36 holes, ultimately finishing with an 11-under 205 and one stroke off the title. He was also 5-under and tied for 19th in his final fall event, making for season-bests in score and finish in back-to-back tournaments.
The same can be said for Gingerich, who was 2-under and 33rd at Colleton River as well. McNeely's 70.93 leads the team.
