ST. LOUIS, MO. – One day after a series-opening slugfest, the University of Cincinnati baseball team trounced Saint Louis, 13-4, to even the weekend series at one game apiece.

UC (14-10) has now reached double figures in runs in four straight games, the first time it has accomplished that feat since the end of the 2021 season.

The Bearcats and Billikens engaged in an impressive display of offense on Friday, but it was a different story on Saturday. Cincinnati once again had a productive day at the dish, tallying 13 runs on 13 hits, but held SLU, one of the top scoring teams in the country, to four runs on eight hits.

UC used three pitchers in game two, with Tommy Boba striking out three across six solid innings to earn the win. Carson Marsh threw two scoreless innings and has now allowed just one run in his last 9.1 innings pitched, which spans his last four outings.

At the plate, all nine players in the starting lineup had at least one hit. Cincinnati's leadoff and two-hole hitters, Lauden Brooks and Tommy O'Connor, each went 3-for-5 and combined for four extra-base hits. Brooks had a pair of doubles and scored a career-best four times, while O'Connor had a double and a home run while recording three RBI and three runs scored.

Kerrington Cross and Josh Kross both tallied three RBI apiece, and Kross homered for the second straight day. He now has four home runs this weekend and a team-leading nine homers on the year. Josh Hegemann reached base four times, going 1-for-3 with two walks and an HBP.

Cincinnati tied its single-game school record with 10 stolen bases on Saturday, matching the previous mark set in 1960 in a game against Drake. Eight different players stole a base against Saint Louis.

The rubber match between the Bearcats and Billikens is set for Sunday at 1 PM ET.

// HOW IT HAPPENED
UC struck first with a run in the top of the second off a Landyn Vidourek sac fly, but Saint Louis responded with an RBI double in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-1.

The Bearcats reclaimed the lead with a three-run top of the third. Lauden Brooks scored on a fielder's choice before Josh Kross launched a two-run home run to make it 4-1. Brooks and Tommy O'Connor upped the lead to 6-1 in the top of the third with back-to-back RBI doubles.

Saint Louis scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be their last run until the final inning. Tommy Boba kept SLU off the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth and Carson Marsh pitched two scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth.

O'Connor added to the lead with a solo home run in the top of the sixth to make it 7-2, and the Bearcats scored six runs across the final two innings to add to their lead.

Two runs came across to score in the top of the eighth, one driven in by Kerrington Cross and another coming in on a SLU throwing error. Those two runs gave UC a 9-2 advantage.

Cincinnati tacked on four more runs in the top of the ninth. A bases-loaded HBP, bases-loaded walk, RBI fielder's choice, and stolen base did the damage for the Bearcats and gave them a 13-2 lead. SLU scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late.
