CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati baseball team heads to Louisville on Tuesday for a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 5 PM on ACCNX.
Tuesday will be the 190th meeting all-time between Cincinnati and Louisville. UC has also faced Miami 190 times, making the Cardinals and RedHawks the most-played opponents in program history. Since 1991, Cincinnati and Louisville have faced off each season except for 2010 and 2020.
UC is in the midst of a nine-game road stretch, which began last week with road games at Miami and Saint Louis. The Bearcats defeated the RedHawks, 11-3, before taking two out of three games at SLU against the Billikens.
Following Tuesday's game, Cincinnati will resume Big 12 play with a three-game series at Baylor this weekend.
// LAST TIME OUT
The Bearcats took two out of three games at Saint Louis this past weekend, dropping a 14-12 slugfest on Friday before coming back to win on Saturday and Sunday.
SLU ranked third in the nation in scoring entering the weekend, but UC held them to seven combined runs over the final two games of the series.
Friday's game was a high-scoring affair, as both teams combined for 26 runs and a whopping 11 home runs. Cincinnati slugged a school record-tying eight home runs in the game, and Josh Kross hit three of them to tie the program's single-game home run record. Saint Louis prevailed, however, thanks to a nine-run bottom of the third and a five-run bottom of the fourth that built a big enough lead that held the rest of the game.
UC bounced back with a 13-4 win on Saturday. Kross homered again, and both Lauden Brooks and Tommy O'Connor combined for four extra-base hits. Tommy Boba and Carson Marsh both kept the Billikens' bats in check all game long as well. UC also stole 10 bases on Saturday, tying the school record for most in a single game. Eight different players had a stolen base.
In the finale on Sunday, Cincinnati prevailed with an 8-3 triumph off the back of tremendous pitching performances by Ryan Insco and Brenden Garula. The bullpen duo combined to shut down SLU over the final five innings and provided an emphatic end to the weekend. At the plate, Landyn Vidourek went 3-for-4 and Lauden Brooks reached base four times.
// BATS ARE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS
Cincinnati has done an excellent job at the plate over its last five games, averaging 10.8 runs per game and hitting .333 as a team. Twenty-one of UC's 65 hits over that timeframe have gone for extra bases, and they have also walked (31) more than they have struck out (28).
The Bearcats recently had a stretch of four straight games scoring at least 10 runs, the first time they have done that since 2021. They also tied single-game school records for home runs and stolen bases during this recent offensive outburst.
// JOSH KROSS IS CRUSHING IT
A big reason why UC has been so productive offensively as of late is the play of Josh Kross. Over his last 15 games, Kross is hitting .344 with seven home runs and 31 RBI while posting a .703 slugging percentage.
He has 37 RBI this season, which leads the Big 12 and ranks seventh in the country, and his nine home runs are second in the conference. Kross put on a slugging showcase in the series opener at Saint Louis, tying the UC single-game record with three home runs. It was the 12th three-homer game in program history and the first since 2022.
// ABOUT LOUISVILLE
