BLUFFTON, S.C. – Ryan Ford's 11-under 205 put him one stroke off the tournament title to lead the Bearcats in its spring-opening Colleton River Collegiate. Cincinnati finished 10th.
Ford's 205 matched Connor McNeely's second-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational for both the lowest score and highest standing. Ford, the 2023 AAC Freshman of the Year, has four top-five finishes in his young career.
"I would like to start with Ryan Ford, who continues to grow into being a top player in collegiate golf," head coach Doug Martin said. "I know he feels as if he let this one slip away. His time is coming.
"As far as the team goes, it was a very frustrating and disappointing way to start the semester. I felt we were very prepared to play this week other than the time we have had away from competing. We have spent so much time working on cleaning things up, and that didn't happen this week. We continued to make mistakes that get you beaten. We have a quick turnaround and must get prepared for Sea Island which starts next Monday."
Ty Gingerich was second on the squad with a 2-under 214, his lowest tally of the season that included a 73 in the final round, his lowest-such of the year. As the longest-tenured member of the roster by a few years, he will continue to play a prominent role down the stretch.
Connor McNeely rebounded from a slow start to post a 69 in the final, his team-high sixth round in the 60s this year.
The Bearcats will remain south for The Johnnie-O in Sea Island Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.
