CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women's lacrosse head coach Gina Thomas announced the hiring of assistant coach Zach Tamburello on Tuesday.

"We are very excited to welcome Zach to the Bearcat family," Thomas said. "His experience and resume are exactly what we need as we enter into the Big 12 this season."

Tamburello joins the staff with a diverse coaching background, having served in various roles at multiple institutions.

Most recently, Tamburello spent the 2024 season at Stanford University where he served as an assistant coach. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the team's achievements, notably contributing to a PAC-12 conference championship. He was instrumental in coaching the offense to achieve a No.14 national ranking with an impressive average of 15.11 goals per game. His coaching efforts also fostered the development of a PAC-12 Freshman of the Year and Goalie of the Year.

Prior to Stanford, he served as an assistant coach overseeing recruiting and managing offensive coordination at Bryant University. Under his guidance, the Bulldogs led the conference in points per game and assists per game, as well as establishing program records for points per game and goals per game.

The Warrenton, Va. native spent five years at Roanoke College where he served as both an assistant coach and head coach. As head coach, Tamburello led the Maroons to a notable 16-5 overall record in the spring of 2022, securing the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. His leadership also resulted in Roanoke achieving a No. 24 national ranking by the IWLCA, marking the program's first top 25 ranking since 2009.

Tamburello's leadership was further evidenced by the accolades earned by his players, including eight all-conference selections, four IWLCA All-Region honorees, and one IWLCA Lacrosse All-American. Additionally, he guided Roanoke to its first conference Player of the Year award since 2016.

Prior to his tenure at Roanoke, Tamburello gained experience as an assistant coach at Pomona-Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif. He graduated from Radford University in 2010 with a degree in Exercise Sport and Health Education.
