CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati cross country freshman Patrick Kiprop was named Big 12 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
"We are excited to have Patrick join our program this fall," head coach Lucas Rothenberger said. "He's still learning his way around the university and the campus, but I was happy to see him in his element out on the cross country course. He's certainly one of the most talented runners I've ever been around, and I am excited to see what he accomplishes during his time at the University of Cincinnati."
Kiprop earned the honor after winning the men's 6k at the Sam Bell Invitational on Aug. 30. He claimed the men's individual title with a course record time of 17:23.96.
The Kenya native won the race by a massive margin of a minute. Kiprop held an impressive 5:46.16 pace throughout the race.
Kiprop is the first Cincinnati student-athlete to win a Big 12 weekly award since Tyler Wirth did so in 2023. Wirth won the men's 6k with a time of 18:01.51 at the RedHawk Rumble.
