CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's soccer program fell to Kansas, 1-0, inside Gettler Stadium on Thursday night.

The Bearcats moved to 4-4-1 (0-2) on the year, while the Jayhawks improved to 4-2-3 (1-1).

Cincinnati brought the defensive pressure in the first half, allowing Kansas to just two shots. Neither team recorded a save or a goal in the first 45 minutes of play.

After the break, Kansas came out hard and found success in the 53rd minute with a goal from Lexi Watts.

The Bearcats knocked off seven shots in the second half but were unable to convert. Fifth year Lauren Bastian notched two and Megan Smith, Ellie Flower, Emma Schmelzer, Maddie Swingle and Paige Miller each recorded one.

Four Bearcats remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes including Fifth year goalkeeper Anna Rexford. This marks her ninth-consecutive as a starter playing the full time.

Cincinnati's homestand concludes on Sunday afternoon with a matchup against Kansas State for the We Play For 3 game. The Bearcats will honor Ally Sidloski, a former midfielder who passed away on May 22, 2021, by announcing the previous and current winners of the memorial scholarship that is in place. Sidloski wore the number three, which is reflected in the We Play For 3 initiative.
