HOUSTON -- Connor McNeely and Rylan Wotherspoon won and tied, respectively, to give the Cincinnati men's golf team a boost against No. 24 Utah, but the Utes took a 3-1-1 victory over the Bearcats, who finished eighth on the week.

"This was a great week for our team," head coach Doug Martin said. "It was not the result we hoped for but certainly learned a lot. We played the 1,4,5 and 8 seed this week. All four matches were very closely contested. One went our way and three didn't. Match Play is great and puts pressure on every shot from your first to your last. I thought Ryan, Connor and Michael all had solid weeks. The offseason is upon us and time to get better."

Cincinnati defeated Iowa State and fell to No. 2 Arizona State and No. 14 Texas Tech at Houston Oaks. Freshman Leo Wessel made his first appearance of the week as well. BYU defeated Baylor for the title. Ryan Ford also took down the U.S. Amateur champion, Josele Ballester, from Arizona State.

The Bearcats return to action at the Quail Valley Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla., Sunday and Monday, for their fall finale.
