EVANSTON, Ill. – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving program fell to Northwestern on Friday afternoon inside Norris Aquatics Center.
The Bearcats took home eight event wins, highlighted by graduate student Hunter Gubeno's and junior Joleigh Crye's standout performances.
Gubeno earned three individual wins for the second straight meet this season. He finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:46.82), 200-yard backstroke (1:41.11) and the 100-yard backstroke (46.87).
For the women, Crye led the way grabbing wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.38) and 100-yard butterfly (53.53). She was also a member of the women's 200-yard freestyle relay team that tallied a first-place finish and the seventh-fastest time in program history with a time of 1:31.78.
The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Crye, Ellie Schrank, Kate Mardis and Jessica Davis grabbed second place and recorded the second-fastest time in program history (3:37.75). On the men's side, the team of Gubeno, Corban McIntosh, Owen Chiles and Luke Van Deusen also finished second with a time of 3:14.49, the ninth-fastest in program history.
Continuing his success from week one, sophomore Kyle Bumgardner notched another win in the 200-yard breaststroke, recording a time of 1:58.17. Bumgardner also earned second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.43, moving him into sixth in program history.
Senior Annabelle Young earned two second place finishes in the 500-yard (4:52.99) and 1000-yard freestyles (10:02.10).
On the diving side, junior Lauren Melia and sophomore Langely Petersen tied for fifth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 243.08. Senior Will Claus had the best finish for the Bearcats in the 3-meter dive, placing fourth with a score of 318.75.
Cincinnati will head to Morgantown, W.v. to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Nov. 1-2.
