CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati men's golf team is headed to Houston for its second edition of Big 12 Match Play, which runs Monday-Wednesday.
Fifteen of the league's teams will compete, with the exception of newcomer Arizona due to a pre-existing schedule conflict. Three sessions of pool play run Monday through Tuesday morning, followed by a bracket beginning Tuesday afternoon. The final rounds are Wednesday morning. Live scoring is available here.
The Bearcats are the No. 9 seed and are joined in Pool A by No. 1 Arizona State and No. 8 Iowa State. UC's pod is the shortened one out of the four, so it will have Tuesday morning off. Last year at the same Houston Oaks course, UC fell to No. 1 Texas, defeated No. 8 Kansas State and finished with a 4-1 win over No. 6 TCU to finish seventh.
Cincinnati is bringing Ryan Ford, Connor McNeely, Michael Senn III, Rylan Wotherspoon, William McDonald and Leo Wessel.
Ford leads the way so far with a 70.33 stroke average, followed by Senn at 71.33. Ford was 6-under en route to winning the Bearcat Invitational title, sandwiched between two even-par performances at Tennessee and Duke. Senn competed as an individual in the season-opener but has been the epitome of consistency, finishing 21st, 17th and 21st.
McNeely's second-place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational in North Carolina included a 6-under 66 in the finale. He has four top-10 finishes in his two-plus semesters with the Bearcats.
