CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team (7-8) secured its first win in the Big 12 against Houston on Sunday, defeating the Cougars 4-0, at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.

"I'm really happy for our team," head coach Eric Toth said.  "Obviously, this conference is a challenge and we've played pretty well despite that.Tennis is about confidence and when things don't go your way on the scoreboard it can affect your confidence. This win should really help us moving forward throughout the rest of the season. As they say, we got the monkey off our back with this first Big 12 win. Hopefully, we can start playing better tennis because I think we can play better tennis. There's no doubt about it, particularly singles. I think our doubles were good today. But we've got another gear or two in singles that we can reach and we're not there yet."

The Bearcats jumped out to a hot start as they won the doubles point.

The freshmen duo of Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe defended home court in the third spot, defeating Elena Trencheva and Gabriela Cortes, 6-4.
