Gubeno, Crye Win Individual Championships, Swimming Wraps Up Conference Meet

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program wrapped up the 2025 Big 12 Conference Championship, earning 22 podium finishes, 23 NCAA B-cut times, one NCAA A-cut time, 17 school records and 104 program top-ten times.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving program wrapped up the 2025 Big 12 Conference Championship, earning 22 podium finishes, 23 NCAA B-cut times, one NCAA A-cut time, 17 school records and 104 program top-ten times. 

The women's team finished sixth overall with 800.5 points, while the men also finished sixth with 923.0 points. 

// DAY FIVE HIGHLIGHTS 
University of Cincinnati swimming and diving graduate student Hunter Gubeno grabbed the Big 12 title in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:40.38 on the final night of the Big 12 Conference Championship in Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center. 

The Howell, Mich. native became the program's second Big 12 Conference Champion and the university's fifth after junior Joleigh Crye claimed the title yesterday in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Gubeno entered tonight's final as the top seed with his prelim time of 1:40.50.

He finished second in the event at the 2024 Big 12 Championships before qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Championships where he finished 31st.

// DAY FOUR HIGHLIGHTS
University of Cincinnati swimming and diving junior Joleigh Crye claimed the Big 12 title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.09.

The Avon, N.Y. native became the program's first Big 12 Conference Champion and the university's third.

Crye entered the finals session as the top seed with her prelim time of 58.39. She paired this victory with a second place finish in last night's 100-yard butterfly final.

// DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS 
Cincinnati saw another night with several A-finalists including Crye (second place/100-yard butterfly), senior Will Claus (fourth place/1-meter dive), sophomore Libby Michel (third place/400-yard individual medley) and sophomore Kyle Bumgardner (fifth place/400-yard individual medley). 

The women's 400-yard medley relay team of Ellie Schrank, Joleigh Crye, Kate Mardis and Jessica Davis finished fourth with a time of 3:34.09. On the men's side, the team of Hunter Gubeno, Corban McIntosh, Joe Swain and Owen Chiles finished sixth, recording a time of 3:09.68.

// DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Sophomore Kyle Bumgardner led the Bearcats into night three of finals as the top seed in the 400-yard individual medley. In prelims, he recorded a personal best and new school record time of 3:45.21. 

Graduate student Jessica Davis (200-yard freestyle), junior Joleigh Crye (100-yard butterfly), freshman Kate Mardis (100-yard butterfly) and sophomore Libby Michel (400-yard individual medley) \ all joined Bumgardner in the A-final in numerous events. 

// DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team kicked off the first night of the 2025 Big 12 Championship in Federal Way, Wash. on Tuesday, with a second place finish in the women's 200-yard medley relay. 

The team of freshman Ellie Schrank, junior Joleigh Crye, freshman Kate Mardis and graduate student Jessica Davis recorded a time of 1:36.16, which is a new school record and also qualifies them for the NCAA Championship meet in March. 

During Wednesday night's finals session, Cincinnati had four swimmers in the A-final (three in the 200-yard individual medley and one in the 50-yard freestyle). 

Sophomore Libby Michel finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.65), graduate student Hunter Gubeno finished sixth (1:44.66), and freshman Owen Chiles finished eighth (1:46.10).

Graduate student Jessica Davis grabbed seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle, tying her personal best time of 22.32.
