SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The Cincinnati men's golf team rallied together from an 8-over first round to a 9-under second to win the Johnnie-O at Sea Island, which was shortened to 36 holes amid high winds.

There was an eight-hour delay during Monday's 36-hole day, leading to only 12 happening then. The field concluded with a dozen more Tuesday, and Cincinnati stormed ahead late to defeat Marquette and Florida Gulf Coast by a stroke each.

"I'm so proud of this group today," head coach Doug Martin said. "Yesterday was an extremely tough day with crazy high winds that resulted in an eight-hour suspension of play. When play resumed we were able to finish 12 holes in challenging conditions. Coming back today, we had to finish six holes to complete round 1. After round one was complete, the event was shortened to 36 holes. Nothing really happened to start the round by this team just stayed its course and displayed amazing patience.

"I can honestly say I have never seen such a comeback in all my years coaching. This gives us a lot to build on."

The Bearcats' last title came in February 2023, a season that included three victories and an NCAA Regional appearance.

Connor McNeely led UC with a 2-under to tie for sixth. Michael Senn III, Ryan Ford and Leo Wessel all tied for 13th with a 1-over. William McDonald was 31st with a 3-over. It was the freshman Wessel's highest-career finish, in addition to Senn's best of the season.

Cincinnati's exciting West Coast trip awaits. The Bearcats play at the Oregon Duck Invitational on Monday, followed by the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Arizona.
