CINCINNATI — Aaron Himmler, Cincinnati's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, was selected at the 2025 Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association's Athletic Trainer of the Year.
He was recognized at last Friday's OHSAA Division III final in Dayton, and will be formally presented with the award May 16-17.
Himmler has been the Bearcats' head football trainer since 2016. In 2023, he was promoted to lead the entire sports medicine unit. Himmler began his UC tenure in 2013 as the athletic trainer with the baseball team.
"Aaron Himmler's recognition as the 2025 OATA Athletic Trainer of the Year is a testament to his unwavering dedication, exceptional expertise, and profound impact on the lives of student-athletes at the University of Cincinnati and beyond," said Brad Pike, Cincinnati Athletics' Chief of Staff. "His leadership in sports medicine exemplifies the highest standards of excellence, and we are incredibly proud to see his contributions celebrated on this well-deserved stage."
Himmler leads a team that includes 13 athletic trainers, a physical therapist and two PT residents. He has participated in two football conference championship teams and a 2021 College Football Playoff appearance. This year, he helped All-American defensive tackle Dontay Corleone return to football after he was sidelined for several months with blood clots in his lungs.
Himmler's day-to-day responsibilities include managing, treating, and preventing all football student-athlete injuries and illnesses and operating the sports medicine center.
A 2007 graduate of Eastern Kentucky, Himmler and his wife, Marisa, have three children, Charlie, Michael and Isabella, and live in Fort Mitchell, Ky.
