CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field team completed a dominant day one at its home meet, the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational at Coy Field on Friday
Weather presented challenges during the hammer throw, with constant rain and two separate weather delays, but that didn't stop Cincinnati from excelling in the event.
Graduate student Orry Willems notched the program record in the hammer throw, while three other Bearcats recorded UC all-time top 10 marks.
On his sixth and final attempt, Willems unleashed an absolute missile, breaking the school record by nearly three meters with a mark of 65.16m. The Balen, Belgium native broke the record twice, claiming a distance of 64.06m on his second hurl of the day. The previous top mark was set by Sam Meece in 2019 when he had a throw of 62.30m.
Junior Ben Fiser and sophomore Tyler Thompson also etched their names into program history as both recorded top ten marks. Fiser moved to fifth with a throw of 60.78m, while Thompson claimed the 10th spot with a toss of 56.70m.
On the women's side, with a hurl of 59.18m, senior Miranda Tcheutchoua moved up the UC hammer throw ranks. The Lusk, Fingal, Ireland native earned the third furthest toss in Bearcat history.
In the Javelin, senior Ryan Rieckmann picked up the victory after he recorded a distance of 59.71m.
