CINCINNATI – Cincinnati football announced the addition of a pair of transfers on Monday with the signing of offensive tackle Joe Cotton and linebacker Darrell Gipson.

Cotton was the consensus No. 1 available offensive lineman in the spring transfer portal. A rising redshirt junior out of South Dakota, he has two years of eligibility after proving to be among the top tackles at the FCS level in 2023 and 2024.

He collected Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-America accolades for the Coyotes in 2023 and allowed just one sack in 2024. Overall, he started all 27 games at left tackle for South Dakota the last two seasons. The 6-7, 310-pound Sioux Falls, S.D., native led an offensive line that finished sixth in the FCS in rushing (215.9) and ninth in total offense (436.9) in 2024, grabbing FCS Football Central Third Team All-America and All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honors along the way. He had offers from several Power Four programs, including Michigan, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

Gipson heads to Clifton with three years of eligibility following a true freshman season at Idaho State where he recorded 21 tackles over 12 games. The 6-3, Lacey, Wash., native will bolster UC's depth in the linebacker room this fall.
