CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams will split competition between two meets this weekend. The Bearcats will participate in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia starting Thursday and the Louisville Invitational at Cardinal Park beginning Friday.
// PENN RELAYS (April 24-26)
The action kicks off Thursday in Pennsylvania at 12 p.m. ET with the women's hammer throw. On Saturday, the women's discus throw will get things started at 9:30 a.m. ET.
The Bearcats will send eight athletes to Philadelphia, including five men and three women.
// LOUISVILLE INVITATIONAL (April 25-26)
The competition begins at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, with field events kicking off at 11 a.m. ET, followed by running events at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Cincinnati will compete with a team of 43 athletes, consisting of 23 men and 20 women.
// BEARCATS IN THE RANKINGS
With the NCAA East First Rounds approaching fast, 22 Bearcats, nine men and 12 women, currently hold qualifying marks, as well as the 4x100 relay squad of Kya Epps, Davenae Fagan, Macaela Walker and Morgan Komolafe.
Graduate Student Astley Davis holds the highest qualifying mark as he is third in the region in the men's triple jump with a mark of 16.02m. The top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the first-round competitions for each individual event.
Four Bearcats currently hold qualifying marks in two events each.
The Bearcats' sophomore Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, who competes in the heptathlon, currently sits with 5584 points, the fourth largest sum of points in the region. This ranking would punch her a direct ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Unlike other events, athletes in combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon) do not participate in the first round. Instead, the top 24 declared student-athletes based on their position on the national descending-order list qualify directly for the Championships.

Women's
The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Tom Jones Invitational hosted by the University of Florida and the Wake Forest Invitational last week.
The Bearcats notched two new all-time top 10 marks.
Graduate Student Korbin Spencer impressed in the throwing events as he notched fourth in shot put, releasing a personal best toss of 18.09m. This moved the Springfield, Ohio native to fourth all-time in Bearcat history. He also secured an eighth-place finish in the discus (51.87m).
On the women's side, graduate student Amanda Ngandu Ntumba showed out in the throwing events. The Saint-Étienne, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes native earned third in the discus throw (57.91m) and fourth in the shot put (15.97m).
After logging a blazing-fast time of 11.60 seconds, junior Kya Epps claimed fourth in the 100m dash. Freshman Morgan Komolafe took 11th in 400m, clocking a time of 54.41 seconds. Komolafe's time moved her to 10th all-time in the UC record books.
Junior Mallory Mullen took home fourth place in the high jump after she leaped 1.66m.
Competing for the United States, former Bearcat Annette Echikunwoke earned first place in the hammer throw with a hurl of 72.40m.
Cincinnati put together great performances in the hammer throw. Graduate students Orry Willems and Ngandu Ntumba both brought home second place in their groups. Willems had a toss of 64.58m, while Ngandu Ntumba launched a throw of 55.99m to improve her hold on the No. 3 spot in the UC all-time top 10.
Freshman Macaela Walker showed out in the 400m hurdles as she took second place with a blazing time of 59.05 seconds, earning herself the second fastest time in UC history.
Senior Ryan Rieckmann placed fourth in the Javelin, and freshman Jason Deem notched fourth in the pole vault. Rieckmann recorded a throw that was 68.91m. Deem moved to 10th all-time in Bearcat history with a mark of 5.15m.
At the Wake Forest Invitational junior Claire Curtsinger moved up to the No. 3 spot in the UC record book after registering a personal best time of 16:24.67 in the 5000m.
In the 1500m, graduate student Jed Helker ran a time of 3:42.95, placing third, while Seth Elking clocked a time of 3:44.40, the fourth fastest time in Cincinnati history.
Freshman Calvin Kilgallon secured 10th place after punching 1:50.55 in the 800m. In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Thomas Ashby logged a 9:10.85 time, coming in 11th place.
