GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- Sophomore Leo Wessel collected his second-straight 3-under round to tie for second, the highest finish of his early career, and Cincinnati rallied three more spots to tie for third at the season-opening Folds of Honor Collegiate.
UC was 12th after Monday's first round before climbing to sixth on Tuesday and three on Wednesday, trailing only Alabama and Notre Dame. The Crimson Tide were picked 16th in Golfweek's preseason poll.
Cincinnati's third-place finish was also its highest to begin a season since winning the Hoosier Invitational in 2021. The Bearcats tied Kansas while edging Cal, Missouri, Michigan State and Florida State, respectively.
Wessel's bogey-free round came after having only one on Tuesday. Even more impressive, it came after he was four-over through the first six holes on Monday. Alabama's William Jennings won the event by one stroke, bogeying each of his final three holes to make for a dramatic finish.
Ryan Ford was 2-under on his back nine to finish 11th. Rylan Wotherspoon improved his score for the second-straight day to tie for 21st, his highest-finish since September 2023.
Connor Cassano and Connor McNeely also had their best scores of the tourney in final-round play.
The Bearcats return to the friendly confines of Coldstream Country Club on Monday and Tuesday for the annual Bearcat Invitational. Admission is open to all.
