Bearcats Travel to Michigan for Jim DeLapa Collegiate

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati men’s golf team travels to Benton Harbor, Mich., for the Jim DeLapa Collegiate starting Sunday at Point O’ Woods Golf & Country Club. The 54-hole event, hosted by Central Michigan, features 36 holes Sunday before the final 18-hole round Monday morning.

Play starts with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Sunday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the final round Monday. Cincinnati’s lineup will consist of Ryan Ford, Leo Wessel, Connor McNeely, Connor Cassano and Rylan Wotherspoon, with Brayden Miller participating as an individual.

The tournament is the third of five fall events for the Bearcats, who opened the fall slate with a third-place finish at the Folds of Honor Collegiate Sept. 8-10 before turning in an 11-stroke victory at the 18-team Bearcat Invitational Sept. 15-16 at Coldstream Country Club.

Tournament History: This week will mark the inaugural Jim DeLapa Collegiate. The event is named in honor of Jim DeLapa, a longtime Point O’ Woods member, who was a mentor to CMU coach Kevin Jennings. 

The Course: The 7,075, par-72 Point O’ Woods Golf and Country Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened for play in 1958. The layout was routed over 350 acres of rolling terrain and hosted the Western Amateur from 1971 through 2008. Past champions of the Western Amateur at Point O’ Woods include Ben Crenshaw, Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard and Tiger Woods. 

The Field: Along with Cincinnati and host Central Michigan, the 13-team field includes Chicago State, Eastern Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast, Grand Canyon, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Pacific, Princeton, San Francisco, San Jose State and St. Mary’s.

BEARCATS IN 2025-26
Through two tournaments, sophomore Leo Wessel leads the Bearcats with a 69.93 scoring average and a pair of top-10 finishes, while senior Ryan Ford sits second with a 70.83 average and has finished ninth and 11th in the two events. Senior Rylan Wotherspoon has participated in both events, notching a 71.67 scoring average, while senior Connor McNeely and sophomore Connor Cassano round out the Bearcat lineup with averages of 72.50 and 72.67, respectively.

Wessel has played four of his six rounds under par, while Ford has carded three rounds under par.

CINCINNATI RUNS AWAY WITH BEARCAT INVITATIONAL
Three Bearcats finished in the top 10 and Cincinnati tallied three-consecutive rounds at 6-under par en route to an 11-stroke victory over an 18-team field at the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club Sept. 16.

The host Bearcats, who won the event for the second time in four years, were paced by Connor McNeely and Leo Wessel, who tied for sixth at 4-under, and Ryan Ford, who finished a stroke back in a tie for ninth. All five Bearcats finished in the top 14 of the event.
