DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. – Paced by a strong opening round from senior Ryan Ford, the Cincinnati men’s golf team sits fifth after 18 holes at The Bryson Invitational Monday at Daniel Island Club. Vanderbilt leads the 15-team field at 10-under, followed by Wake Forest at 8-under, Kansas and Duke tied for third at 7-under, Wisconsin at 5-under and the Bearcats at 3-under.
Ford posted his sixth under-par round in the last nine, using seven birdies to card a 6-under 66 to lead the tournament by two strokes over a large group at 4-under. Sophomore Leo Wessel used four birdies to offset a trio of bogeys and sits in a tie for 19th at 1-under, while freshman Brayden Miller, in his first start in the Bearcat lineup, carded an even-par 72 to tie for 30th after the opening round.
Senior Rylan Wotherspoon is tied for 68th at 4-over, while fellow senior Connor McNeely is a stroke back in a tie for 77th.
As a team, Cincinnati is tied for second with 17 birdies. Individually, Ford led the field in par-4 scoring at 4-under and tied for the lead with seven birdies through the first round.
