LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team earned a fourth-place finish at the rain-shortened Cullan Brown Collegiate Tuesday at Lexington Country Club. Mississippi State won the event at 11-under, followed by host Kentucky at 10-under, N.C. State at 5-under and the Bearcats at 3-under.
The tournament was originally slated for 54 holes but was shortened to 36 after darkness halted play Monday night and then rain and storms limited the event once the remaining holes of the second round were completed Tuesday morning.
Senior Ryan Ford, who has been steady all fall, notched his third-straight top-10 finish with a tie for fourth at 4-under. The Westfield, Ind., native matched his career low with a bogey-free 7-under 64 in the opening round Monday. Fellow senior Connor McNeely went 70-71 to tie for 14th, tallying his second top-20 in four fall tournaments.
Sophomore Leo Wessel and senior Rylan Wotherspoon tied for 33rd at 1-over, as Wessel shot an even par-71 in the opening round before a 1-over 72 in the second and Wotherspoon bounced back from an opening-round 2-over 73 with a 1-under 70.
Rounding out the Bearcat lineup was sophomore Davis Gochenouer, who tied for 80th at 11-over. Competing as an individual, sophomore Connor Cassano tied for 83rd at 12-over.
As a team, the Bearcats led the field with 36 birdies and in par-5 scoring at 13-under. Individually, McNeely tied for the most birdies in the 90-competitor field with 11, Ford paced the field in par-4 scoring at 5-under and Wessel tied for tops in par-5 scoring at 5-under.
