CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team continues its road trip with a Tuesday night game at Saint Joseph’s. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hagan Arena.
THE RUNDOWN
- Last time out, Cincinnati fell to Penn State, 82-77, on Friday night in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions used a late 13-2 run to pull away in the fourth quarter.
- Cincinnati, which has eight newcomers on this year’s roster, has seen each of its first two games decided by five points or fewer with an average scoring margin of minus-four.
- Four Bearcats scored in double figures against Penn State: Kylie Torrence (18), Caliyah DeVillasee (15), Mya Perry (15) and Reagan Jackson (13). It marked the first time Cincinnati had two freshmen score in double figures in the same game since Dec. 1, 2023.
- Freshman forward Kylie Torrence finished with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block at Penn State. She is the first freshman and just the sixth Bearcat overall to post that stat line since the 1999-2000 season.
- After missing the season opener while recovering from injury, Kali Barrett made her collegiate debut at Penn State, hitting two three-pointers in a span of one minute.
- Cincinnati outrebounded Penn State by five (45-40) and grabbed 21 offensive boards. Alliance Ndiba finished with 10 rebounds, while Ramiyah Byrd added a career-high seven.
- Senior guard Mya Perry averaged 23 points and made nine three-pointers in her first week of action. She tied her career high with 31 points against Lehigh on 11-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-8 from three-point range.
- The 31 points were the most by a Bearcat since Ilmar’I Thomas scored 51 on Feb. 24, 2021. It marked just the fifth time this century a Bearcat scored 30-plus points while hitting at least six threes. She was one of five players nationally to hit those marks in a game last week.
- Freshman point guard Caliyah DeVillasee averaged 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists during the opening week. Her 14 points against Lehigh marked the most points scored by a Cincinnati freshman in their first game since 2017. She followed that with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists at Penn State, the only Big 12 freshman to post those numbers in a game last week.
- Junior guard Reagan Jackson has scored in double figures in each of the first two games, including 21 points against Lehigh. She is shooting 47% from the field, 56% from three-point range and 93% from the free throw line. She ranks fourth in the Big 12 in three-point percentage (.556) and sixth in free throw percentage (.929).
- Perry and Jackson combined for 10 three-pointers against Lehigh, becoming the first Bearcat duo to each score at least 20 points and make four or more threes in the same game since March 2, 2020, when Antoinette Miller and Sam Rodgers did so against East Carolina.
- Perry ranks first in the Big 12 in three-pointers made per game (4.5), fourth in scoring (23.0) and t-sixth in three-point percentage (.500).
- Cincinnati shot 55% (11-of-20) from three-point range against Lehigh, its best performance from beyond the arc since 2023. The mark ranked ninth nationally during the season’s opening week.
- The Bearcats will face a challenging non-conference slate, playing four teams that reached the NCAA Tournament or WBIT last season and three others that played in the WNIT.
- Tuesday’s game marks the first meeting between Cincinnati and Saint Joseph’s. The Bearcats will face six first-time opponents during the 2025-26 season.
- Big 12 women’s basketball head coaches voted Dee Alexander the conference’s Preseason Freshman of the Year. The five-star guard is Cincinnati’s first Big 12 individual preseason award honoree. She was recently named to the USBWA’s preseason watch list for the Tamika Catchings Award, presented annually to the national freshman of the year.
