CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati senior track and field standout Kya Epps was named the Big 12 Women's Athlete of the Week in the league's first award of the indoor season.
Epps competed in three events at the Rod McCravy Invitational last weekend, excelling in all. She won the 200-meter with a 23.67 mark, the best in the league and 11th nationally. She competed in three heats of the 60-meter, finishing second in that one. Her 7.39 in the prelims was her best of the those.
The Akron native was also part of the 4x400 relay team that is 13th nationally and third in UC program history (3:39.78), which included Davenae Fagan, Morgan Komolafe and Macaela Walker.
Epps began her career at Walsh, where she was a two-time indoor All-American. She made an immediate impact last year for the Bearcats, setting two indoor school records and qualifying for the outdoor nationals.
Away from the track, she has made a name for herself as an ambassador for the diabetes community and Dexcom, including an August event with other collegiate and aspiring athletes. Her three-minute interview about her journey is available here.
