HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Cincinnati men’s and women’s swimming and diving program finished a weekend of competing against Houston, TCU, West Virginia and Iowa State at the Big 12 Dual Meet East Showdown this weekend in Houston.
The women's (761) and men's (612) teams both secured second-place finishes.
Cincinnati made a statement on the first day of the meet with 11 event wins. The women’s team claimed six event victories, while the men’s side earned five.
The women’s team started the meet off by achieving first in the 200-yard medley relay including Ellie Schrank, Joleigh Crye, Kate Mardis and Lindi Worrell with a time of 1:38.46. Crye led the women’s team with two first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (53.97) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.31).
Junior Kyle Bumgardner led the men’s team with wins in the 400-yard IM (3:51.18) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.40), while also contributing to a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:13.82). He added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.33) and helped secure third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:28.81).
Ramez Diaa led the divers by securing second in the 1-meter (330.45) and fourth on platform (331.65). Freshman Noah Green took fifth on platform (273.30) and sixth in the 1-meter (282.50).
For the women’s divers, Langely Petersen led with seventh in the 3-meter (278.55) and 15th in the 1-meter (236.75). Lauren Melia posted 10th for the 1-meter (256.15) and 12th in the 3-meter (253.20).
On the last day, the Bearcats secured three event wins with two from the men’s team and one relay win on the women’s side.
Owen Chiles claimed first in the 200-yard IM (1:47.69), Joe Swain notched first-place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.16) and the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay captured first including Worrell, Mardis, JoAnn Adler and Taira Vroom with a time of 3:20.33.
Up next, the Bearcats travel back home to host Xavier for Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan 23. The Senior Ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m.
