GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Cincinnati men’s and women’s swimming and diving program finished the third day of Big 12 Championships inside Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday, Feb 26.
Prelims started at 10 a.m. including the 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, men’s 1-meter dive, women’s 3-meter dive events and the 400-yard medley relay.
Following prelims, five Bearcats secured a spot in the A-finals and B-finals and nine made the C-finals to compete in the evening.
The highlight of the night came from the women’s 400 medley relay including the team of Ellie Schrank, Joleigh Crye, Kate Mardis and Taira Vroom with a time of 3:34.21.
Sophomore Kate Mardis and junior Libby Michel each earned a fifth-place finish. Mardis in the 100-yard butterfly (53.37) and Michel in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:17.55.
Two more podium placements came from Crye grabbing eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.78 and Vroom claiming eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.89).
Junior Kyle Bumgardner tallied the only podium placement on the men’s side for day three securing eighth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:50.56.
The men’s 400-yard medley relay team of Joe Swain, Benson Wong, Sawyer Tapp and Owen Chiles recorded seventh with a time of 3:11.41.
Ramez Diaa placed 10th in the 1-meter dive (306.85) while Noah Green finished 14th with a score of 271.20.
Cincinnati ended the third day with six podium placements.
