Bearcats Battle Back in Second Round, Sit Tied for Eighth at Colleton River

The Cincinnati men’s golf team battled back from a difficult opening round to its spring season climb into a tie for eighth after the opening day of the Colleton River Collegiate at the Dye Course at Colleton River Club Sunday. The Bearcats posted a 7-over team score in the morning session before improving by 12 strokes to go 5-under in the afternoon to sit in a tie for eighth at 2-over for the event.

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team battled back from a difficult opening round to its spring season climb into a tie for eighth after the opening day of the Colleton River Collegiate at the Dye Course at Colleton River Club Sunday. The Bearcats posted a 7-over team score in the morning session before improving by 12 strokes to go 5-under in the afternoon to sit in a tie for eighth at 2-over for the event.

Kentucky leads at 12-under, while Ohio State is a stroke back in second and Minnesota sits third at 7-under.

Results

Senior Ryan Ford bounced back from a 2-over 74 in the first round to card three birdies and an eagle on his way to a 3-under 69 in the afternoon to sit in a tie for 21st at 1-under. Fellow senior Connor McNeely posted the best score in the Bearcats’ lineup in the morning, a 1-over 73, before also notching three birdies and an eagle for a 1-under 71 in the second round to jump into a tie for 24th at even par.

Freshman Brayden Millier recorded four birdies in his second round en route to a 1-under 71 and a tie for 32nd at 1-over through two rounds. Senior Rylan Wotherspoon and freshman Leo Wessel are tied for 50th after going 76-72 and 74-74, respectively.

Sophomore Connor Cassano, playing as an individual, also is part of that tie for 50th after carding an even-par 72 in the morning before a 4-over 76 in the second session.

As a team, the Bearcats lead the 15-team field with 119 pars and are tied for third with a pair of eagles. Individually, Miller leads the field in par-3 scoring at 4-under through two rounds.

Cincinnati’s final-round tee times start at 7:45 a.m. Monday.
