PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team sits in a tie for 24th after an 11-over-par opening round of The Goodwin Thursday at Stanford Golf Course. Host Stanford lead the 30-team field at 11-under through 18 holes.

Results

Senior Ryan Ford fought back after three bogeys en route to a 2-over 37 on his first nine to notch an eagle and a birdie against one bogey on his second nine to tie for 43rd with an even-par 70. Fellow senior Connor McNeely sits three strokes back in a tie for 91st. The native of Noblesville, Ind., opened with eight straight pars before a birdie in 18, his ninth hold of the day, but three bogeys and a double in his first five holes of the second nine led him to a 3-over 73.

Sophomores Leo Wessel and Connor Cassano, along with freshman Brayden Miller, each carded a 4-over 74 to sit in a tie for 104th place after the opening round.

As a team, the Bearcats ranked second in the 30-team field with 61 pars through the opening 18 holes. Individually, Ford is tied for tops in the 160-competitor field in par-5 scoring at 4-under.

Second-round tee times get underway at 10 a.m. ET Friday.
