The Cincinnati men’s golf team sits in sixth place after 36 holes at The Johnnie-O Monday at the Plantation Course at Sea Island Resort. Florida Gulf Coast leads the event at 32-under, followed by Kansas in second at 30-under, Georgia Southern at 29-under, Minnesota and Notre Dame tied at 26-under and the Bearcats at 23-under.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team sits in sixth place after 36 holes at The Johnnie-O Monday at the Plantation Course at Sea Island Resort. Florida Gulf Coast leads the event at 32-under, followed by Kansas in second at 30-under, Georgia Southern at 29-under, Minnesota and Notre Dame tied at 26-under and the Bearcats at 23-under.

Cincinnati posted a 16-under 272 in the first session, marking its second-lowest round of the year, before going 7-under in the afternoon.

Results

After 36 holes, Leo Wessel sits 13th at 7-under, while senior Ryan Ford and freshman Brayden Miller had a strong day and sit a stroke back in 16th place. Seniors Connor McNeely and Rylan Wotherspoon round out the Bearcats lineup in 60th and 70th place at 2-over and 3-over, respectively.

The Bearcats took advantage of perfect scoring conditions, vaulting into a tie for third at 16-under after a morning session that featured four under-par rounds. Wessel used nine birdies to post a career-low 7-under 65, while Ford, McNeely and Miller each carded a 3-under 69. Miller’s round marked a career-best in relation to par for the newcomer.

In the afternoon, Ford carded five birdies on his way to a 3-under 69 Miller matched him with a birdie, an eagle and 16 pars. Wessel and Wotherspoon each followed by carding an even-par 72.

The Bearcats have torn up the par-5’s, leading the 15-team field at 22-under par, while sitting in a tie for second with 116 pars and a pair of eagles. Miller’s 27 pars through 36 holes are tied for second in the field.

Final-round play gets underway with tee times Tuesday morning.
