BOULDER, Colo. — The Cincinnati lacrosse team fell 10-5 against No. 14 Colorado on Saturday afternoon at Prentup Field, dropping the Bearcats to 8-7 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 play. The Buffaloes improved to 8-3, 1-1 in conference.
Cincinnati jumped out to an early lead, with senior Lexie Wolfe netting the game's first goal to give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage. Wolfe added a second before the period ended to push the lead to 2-1. Colorado's offense then caught fire in the second period, going on a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead into halftime. Consecutive goals by Wolfe and freshman Payton Kozina would cut Colorado's advantage to 8-5 with 11:53 to go in the fourth period, but Rachel Kennedy answered with back-to-back goals to cap the Buffaloes' victory.
Wolfe led the Bearcats with a hat trick and an assist, while sophomore Paige Selhorn added a goal and three assists, surpassing 150 career points — fifth-most in program history. Goalkeepers Emma Mielke and Bella Kerr combined for 13 saves. Colorado was paced by Maddie Shoup, who finished with five goals. The Buffaloes dominated the stat sheet, holding a 36-13 shot advantage, forcing 11 turnovers and winning draw controls 12-5.
The opening period was a defensive battle until the 6:38 mark, when Wolfe struck first to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead. Colorado responded quickly to knot it at 1-1 before Wolfe sent the Bearcats into the second period with a 2-1 advantage, reaching up for an impressive catch in front of the net off a Selhorn feed — her 150th career point — and immediately putting it away.
Colorado controlled the second period entirely, with Shoup accounting for two of the four Buffaloes goals to push the lead to 5-2 at the half.
Back-to-back goals from Colorado extended the lead to 7-2 in the third period before Selhorn halted the run with a goal of her own with 1:35 remaining, cutting the deficit to 7-3. The Buffaloes answered thirty seconds later to move ahead 8-3 heading into the fourth.
Wolfe and Kozina each scored in the opening minutes of the final period — both on Selhorn assists — to make it 8-5, but Kennedy responded with two goals to give Colorado a commanding 10-5 advantage and close out the win.
