WEST POINT, Miss. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team sits in 15th place at 18-over after 36 holes at the Mossy Oak Collegiate Monday at Mossy Oak Golf Club. Ole Miss leads the tournament at 17-under, followed by host Mississippi State at 8-under and Vanderbilt at 5-under.
Senior Ryan Ford and freshman Brayden Miller lead the Bearcats’ lineup in a tie for 51st at 4-over, while senior Connor McNeely and sophomores Connor Cassano and Leo Wessel are tied for 84th at 11-over. Senior Rylan Wotherspoon, competing as an individual, sits in a tie for 35th at 2-over.
Ford carded a pair of 2-over-par 72’s, while Miller went 1-over in the morning and 3-over in the afternoon. Ford’s afternoon started promising with six birdies in his opening 13 holes, but it was offset with a bogey, two doubles and a triple.
Cassano carded four birdies against two bogeys for an opening-round 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for fifth after 18 holes, but struggled to a 13-over 85 in the second session. McNeely was just the opposite, posting a 10-over 82 in the morning, before using five birdies en route to a 1-over 73 to bounce back in the afternoon. Wessel rounded out the Bearcats lineup, posting a 7-over 79 in the first round before a 4-over 76 in the second.
Wotherspoon had one birdie against three bogeys for the 2-over 74 in the morning, but then offset three bogeys with a trio of birdies to post the Bearcats’ best score, an even-par 72, in the afternoon.
Wotherspoon’s 26 pars are tied for fifth-most in the 104-competitor field.
Final-round play begins with tee times starting at 9 a.m. ET Tuesday.
