WEST POINT, Miss. – The Cincinnati men’s golf team improved its standing 10 spots into fifth place at 10-over par in the final round of the Mossy Oak Collegiate Tuesday at Mossy Oak Golf Club in West Point, Miss. The Bearcats shot 8-under Tuesday, one stroke behind host Mississippi State for the low round of the day.
The Bulldogs tied for first with Ole Miss at 17-under for the tournament, followed by Vanderbilt at 10-under and Alabama at 4-under.
Senior Ryan Ford climbed 37 spots on the final day, using a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to tie for 14th at 2-under for the tournament. It marked the Westfield, Ind., native’s 14th under-par round of his senior campaign and tied for the lowest final-round score in the four-year history of the event.
Freshman Brayden Miller finished off another strong showing in a tie for 28tth at 2-over for the event, notching four birdies on his way to a 2-under 70 in the final round for his sixth under-par round of the season, all coming in the last five tournaments. Sophomore Leo Wessel brushed off a difficult day Monday to pour in five birdies on his way to a 2-under 70 to tie for 60th.
Sophomore Connor Cassano, who opened the tournament with a stellar 2-under 70 Monday morning, posted a hard-fought 2-over 74 to tie for 73rd in the event, while senior Connor McNeely recorded a 4-over 76 final round to tie for 82nd.
Senior Rylan Wotherspoon, who was competing as individual, was another bright spot for the Bearcats, carding his second 2-over 74 of the tournament, sandwiched around an even-par 72 second round, to tie for 33rd at 4-over.
For the event, Ford tied for third in the 104-competitor field in par-4 scoring at 4-under, while ranking third alone with 15 birdies. Miller tied for third in the field with 38 pars.
The Bearcats will look to take the momentum with them when they travel to Hutchinson, Kan., for the Big 12 Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club April 27-29.
