GAINESVILLE, FLA —  Kya Epps, Abby Sewell, and Nickson Kogei's program records headlined the University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams in action at the Tom Jones Memorial and Wake Forest Invitational.

Cincinnati kicked off action in Gainesville today where the senior, Epps, flew around the track and claimed the 200 meter record with a time of 22.71. This was good for an eighth-place finish within the meet.

Sophomore Macaela Walker stood out in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.77. This was a personal best for Walker and also good for the third best time in program history.

Fifth year Miranda Tcheutchoua notched the sixth-best hammer throw in program history with a toss of 57.11 meters, good for a fourth-place finish.

The Bearcats also saw a second group of athletes wrapping up competition at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Sewell, the freshman, competed in the 5,000 meter race, finishing first with a time of 16:02.71. With this time, Sewell surpassed her previous school record in the event.Kogei competed in the 5,000 meter for the men’s side, where he also surpassed the school record. Kogei ran a program best 13:40.07 in the event.

In both the men’s and women’s 1500 meter race, Bearcats made their mark. On the women’s side, Gwen Stare secured the third-best time in program history with a time of 4:16.98. On the men’s side, Gianni Allwein finished with the second-best time in history, 3:39.68. Seth Elking also had a dominant performance with a time of 3:40.94, which is the fourth-best in UC history.

Cincinnati returns for the final day of action in Gainesville tomorrow, with the women’s discus throw getting things started at 9 a.m. ET. Two Bearcats are set to compete in the event, junior Sydney Foglesong and freshman Rania Brown.
