CINCINNATI – Cincinnati pitcher Dominic Mauro was selected by the Athletics in the 10th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.
Mauro is the third member of Cincinnati’s 2026 squad to be drafted after Jack Natili (third round, Colorado Rockies) and Nathan Taylor (third round, Seattle Mariners). It’s the first time since 2018 that UC has had three players taken in the same draft. That year Cam Alldred (24th round, Pittsburgh Pirates), J.T. Perez (29th round, Minnesota Twins), and A.J. Bumpass (39th round, Cincinnati Reds) all heard their name called.
Mike Spina in 2009 was the only other player in school history to be drafted by the A’s.
“Even though Dom was only with us one year it was a thrill to see his growth,” head coach Jordan Bischel said. “He made a huge impact on our bullpen this year and has an arsenal that will help him be very successful at the professional level.”
Mauro struck out 43 across 41.0 innings of work as one of Cincinnati’s top bullpen arms. He recorded five saves and was a workhorse as a reliever, as 16 of his 21 appearances lasted at least two innings. He ended the year strong, as he did not allow a walk over his final six outings, a span that stretched 10.1 innings.
He spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons at Northwood, leading his program to NCAA Division II Championships as a sophomore, the first trip in school history. He made 19 appearances on the mound in 2025, posting a 3.02 ERA while striking out 48 in 44.2 innings.
