TicketsCINCINNATI - Cincinnati women’s lacrosse made its mark on the international stage this summer, with assistant coach Jamie Redding, sophomore Haley Mario and alumni Gillian Smith representing teams across the globe.
// JAMIE REDDING - TEAM PUERTO RICO
Redding helped lead the Puerto Rico Women’s National Team to a historic finish at the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
She served as an assistant coach throughout the championship as Puerto Rico earned an eighth-place finish, the best result in program history.
Puerto Rico opened the tournament with a 2-2 record in pool and playoff play, including a dramatic 14-13 victory over Scotland that secured the program’s first-ever top-eight finish. The team went on to compete for seventh place, ultimately falling to host Japan, 17-11.
Under Redding and the Puerto Rico coaching staff, the team finished the championship with 57 goals, 75 points and 18 assists across six games, while advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
// HALEY MARIO - TEAM ITALY
Mario helped lead Team Italy to the inaugural World Lacrosse Women’s Championship Division II title this summer in Wroclaw, Poland.
She made a significant impact throughout Italy’s championship run, including a standout performance in the semifinals against New Zealand. The Cincinnati standout recorded a hat trick to help Italy earn a 10-4 victory and advance to the gold-medal match.
In the championship game, Italy defeated Mexico, 11-4, to claim the first-ever Division II world championship. Mario added a goal in the fourth quarter as Italy pulled away to secure the gold medal.
Italy finished the tournament with a 6-1 record, earning four wins in pool play before advancing through the semifinal and gold-medal rounds.
// GILLIAN SMITH - TEAM IRELAND
Smith represented Ireland at both the 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan, and the 2026 European Women’s Box Lacrosse Championship.
She competed in all five games for Ireland at the World Championship, helping the team to an 11th-place finish among 16 nations. Ireland posted a 2-3 record at the tournament, including a 12-8 victory over Wales in the 11th-place game. Smith contributed a goal and four shots on goal during the tournament.
Smith also made an impact in the European Women’s Box Lacrosse Championship, finishing the tournament with nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points, ranking 15th among the tournament’s individual scoring leaders.
The summer marked a significant international experience for Smith, competing at the highest levels of both field and box lacrosse while representing Ireland on the world stage.
