TicketsCINCINNATI — The Cincinnati volleyball team fell in its Big 12 opener to No. 11 TCU in straight sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) on Friday night at Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats fell to 7-4, while the Horned Frogs improved to 9-3, extending their win streak to eight matches.
Sydney Nolan totaled 10 kills, and Andrea Simovski added nine kills and eight digs. Viktoria Ninova notched 16 digs, marking her eighth match this season with double-digit digs.
TCU outhit UC .243 to .118 and outblocked the Bearcats 13-3, while also tallying seven service aces. The Horned Frogs were led by Becca Kelly, who turned in an all-around performance with 13 kills, 12 digs and four blocks.
The opening set was back-and-forth early, as a Nolan kill gave Cincinnati a 6-5 lead. TCU answered with four straight kills to take a 9-6 lead, then a block extended the margin to 15-10. Nolan's ace cut UC's deficit to 18-14, but the Horned Frogs closed out the set, 25-16.
A 7-1 run fueled by two TCU service aces built a 9-5 lead in the second set. A block from Simovski trimmed it to 11-9, but the Horned Frogs pulled away with back-to-back points for an 18-13 lead before closing out the set, 25-19.
An opening kill from Nolan gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead in the third set, but TCU responded with five straight points for a 5-1 advantage. A kill from Nina Scrucca ignited a run of three points that cut the deficit to 8-6, before Evan Hendrix pushed TCU's lead to 15-8. Cincinnati answered with five straight points, capped by back-to-back kills from Scrucca, to make it 15-12. Kills from Lilian Entenmann and Kate Lijic pulled UC within 19-17, but TCU held on to close out the set and the match, 25-21.

Cincinnati will host reigning back-to-back Big 12 champion and preseason favorite Arizona State on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena.
