Austin Frick joined the Cincinnati men's golf program as an assistant coach in June 2018 and is in his ninth season with the Bearcats.
Frick’s duties include assisting with practices, recruiting, evaluating players, golf fitness programming, club fitting and helping with on-course education during tournaments.
This past season, the Bearcats earned their second NCAA Tournament selection, participating in the NCAA Bryan Regional. Ryan Ford garnered All-Big 12 Second Team recognition and NCAA Division I PING All-Midwest Region honors. As a team, Cincinnati finished in the top five on five occasions and won the Bearcat Invitational in September.
In 2024-25, Ford qualified for the NCAA Urbana Regional (fourth-straight year of NCAA representation for the program) and finished second by one stroke, the highest finish by a Bearcat on that stage.
The Bearcats' inaugural season in the Big 12 (2023-24) saw Ty Gingerich card a 9-under 279 at the Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. It was the first four-day event in program history as well, and marked three-straight years of NCAA Regional representation.
The 2022-23 season saw Cincinnati earn its first NCAA Regional appearance in program history, including climbing to No. 25 in the Golfstat rankings, its highest ever, while winning three tournament titles (its most since 1997-98). Head coach Doug Martin was named the AAC Coach of the Year, Ford earned Freshman of the Year. Ford, Sam Jean and Ty Gingerich became UC's first All-Conference trio since 1993 as well.
Jean's bid to the 2022 NCAA Columbus Regional marked the fifth individual appearance in school history. Jean also earned the program's first CoSIDA Academic All-American distinction. That spring also saw the Bearcats set two records in the final round of the Colleton River Collegiate in South Carolina: Clay Amlung's 8-under 64 and a team 18-under 270, the latter besting the previous by five strokes. Jean also competed in the US Amateur Championship in August. All in all, four different Bearcats combined for 11 top-10 finishes in 2021-22.
Despite the shortened 2019-2020 season, the Bearcats posted two top-5 finishes. Those 2 finishes taking place at the Bearcat Invitational and the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, both of which transpired in during the Fall portion of the season. The success continued in the classroom with eight players being named to the AAC All-Academic Team.
Frick came to Cincinnati after spending the past 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. While in Knoxville, Frick assisted the Volunteers coaching staff, tracked and organized statistics and managed all performance and training equipment. He received his master’s degree in kinesiology with a specialization in sports psychology and motor behavior from Tennessee in April 2018.
Since 2016, Frick also has worked as a mental skills coach using sports psychology training while consulting professional and amateur golfers as well as minor league baseball players.
Frick played Division I collegiate golf as a four-year starter at Francis Marion University in South Carolina where he earned Academic All-America honors his senior campaign. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Francis Marion in 2015. He later served as a professional caddie for the Nordea Golf Tour in Sweden in 2015.
