Prior to UC: A native of Columbus, Ohio, Smith comes to UC after attending Grace College competing in soccer and track and field for the Lancers. As a senior he set a personal record in the 800m with a time of 1:51.54 at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the 2022 NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships he set a personal record in the 1500m, placing fourth, with a time of 3:58.38. He holds eight Grace College track and field records. He earned CoSiDA First Team All-America in 2022.
