CINCINNATI, Ohio--University of Cincinnati swimmer Marcel Kleiner (Heilbronn, Germany/Hohen Staufen Gymnasium) and track and field athlete Abi Hamrick (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) have been named the athletic department's top scholar-athletes of the fall quarter after both athletes earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

A total of 17 student-athletes, representing each of UC's sports, were named scholar-athletes of the quarter and the contingent will have their photos added to the Academic Wall of Fame in Fifth Third Arena. In addition to Kleiner and Hamrick, women's basketball players Bianca Roldan-Jarus (Madrid, Spain/Residence Blume) and Jill Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South), cross country runners Brad Babiak (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller), Karen Berling (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Jennifer Hannen (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek), Randy King (North Bend, Ohio/St. Xavier), Rick King (North Bend, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Nicole Waldie (Canton, Ohio/Massillon-Jackson), football's Jonny Zwitt (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), rowers Taryn Dyle (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Point North) and Allison Lemaster (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville), men's soccer player Matt Hayden (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty), women's soccer's Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), swimmers Gerdien de Jong (Bussum, Netherlands/Goois Lyceum), Al Dowling (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Kristen Funk (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) and track and field athletes Tara Meier (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), Greg Roberson (Dayton, Ohio/Stebbins) and Andrew Smith (Coshocton, Ohio/Coshocton) all earned 4.0 GPA's during the fall.

A total of 230 student-athletes from UC's 17 sports were named to either the Bearcat or the Topcat Honor Roll. To qualify for the Bearcat Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have earned a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.49 for the quarter, while Topcat honorees must maintain between a 3.5 and a 4.0 GPA.
